My journey to the world of venture capital began in an unexpected place – with a childhood dream of becoming Canada's first Black female Supreme Court judge. While that ambition eventually shifted, it instilled in me a drive to make an impact and break new ground.
As I entered high school, my interests gravitated towards business, particularly management and people leadership. This led me to study business administration in university, where I honed my organizational and interpersonal skills – abilities that serve me well in my current role.
My path has been anything but linear. After university, I briefly pursued a Master's in Criminal Justice in Texas before returning to Toronto. It was then that a temporary position as Guest Experience Ambassador at OMERS opened the door to a career I never anticipated. Through determination and adaptability, I worked my way from reception to pensions, and finally to the dynamic world of venture capital at OMERS Ventures.
Outside of work, I'm an avid sports fan with a particular love for football (both kinds) and baseball. While I used to play volleyball and soccer, these days I channel my energy into hiking – or rather, I did more before becoming a mother, which now burns plenty of energy! I'm also an enthusiastic reader, with a soft spot for romance novels and anything related to astronomy and space.
My background is as diverse as my interests. Born and raised in Scarborough as a first-generation Canadian, my family's roots trace back to Guyana. Living in various places across Ontario, and in Houston, has shaped my perspective and adaptability.
What should founders know about me?
I thrive on change and welcome the daily chaos that comes with supporting a fast-paced VC team. I'm always willing to lend a helping hand, whether it's coordinating board meetings or assisting with any other needs our portfolio companies might have. My experience across different roles at OMERS has given me a unique perspective on the organization and the ability to navigate its various facets.
Above all, I'm committed to continuous growth and learning. Whether it's through books, shows, or formal education, I'm always seeking ways to improve myself and my skills. This drive for personal development, combined with my organizational abilities and love for dynamic environments, makes me a valuable asset to our team and the founders we support.
