The story so far
Before getting into venture capital, I worked in M&A at London-based law firm Slaughter and May. My journey to VC wasn't straightforward; it was a series of calculated risks and surprising turns. At Slaughter, I focused on PE funds and eventually helped a former Partner establish his own growth fund. When the opportunity arose in 2014, I shifted gears and joined Hedosofia as general counsel, but with an eye on eventually investing full time. My big break in VC came through a collaboration on a European Founders fund with the team behind Google DeepMind, among others. From that point on, I was fully committed to the venture path and it led me to OMERS and eventually to joining OMERS Ventures Europe. One of the happiest moments of my business life was landing at OMERS. I’m thrilled to be a part of capitalism that works—making money for pensioners while fueling innovation.
From Google and Pinterest to Spotify, and Uber—I've worked with high performers up close. My insights range from seed to PE buyout, making me a jack-of-all-trades in a hyper-specialized world. I'm not your typical investor. I didn't come from a finance or operations background; I came from law. I can offer a unique perspective that complements an operator or traditional investor-heavy cap table. I don't bring arrogance or a sense that I’ve ‘been there, done that’; I bring enthusiasm, a varied career, and significant experience in areas like deal structuring, due diligence, negotiating and conflict resolution.
What should founders know about me?
I've been enamored with the concept of corporate life from the beginning, so even when I'm not working, I'm thinking about the next big thing. My career has followed a complex path to get me where I am today, taking me through a series of ventures and partnerships with some of the industry's most brilliant minds. And that's the lens through which I view life—constantly engaging, constantly evolving.
But when it comes to founders, I don’t necessarily want them to care about what I’ve done, but rather, about what we could do together. I want to work with founders and teams who want to make something incredible happen.
